What Is an Oral Appliance?
An oral appliance is a custom-fit device, similar to a slim retainer, that you wear while you sleep. It gently holds your lower jaw forward, keeping the airway behind your tongue open so breathing isn’t interrupted.
For patients with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea, or anyone who has struggled to tolerate a CPAP machine, it’s a proven, well-studied alternative that’s smaller than a phone case and travels in your pocket.

You Already Have a Prescription
Once we have your prescription, the process is quick and comfortable—no impressions, no waiting on a lab for a preview.
1. We review your prescription and sleep study results together at your visit.
2. We take a digital scan of your teeth and bite — a few minutes, no messy putty.
3. Your appliance is custom-fabricated and ready for fitting in approximately two weeks.
4. We fit, adjust, and show you how to wear and care for it.
Total fee, scan to finished appliance:
$2,400 (or three monthly payments of $800)
Ready in approximately two weeks.
You Don't Have a Prescription Yet
An oral appliance requires a diagnosis and prescription from a physician, which starts with a sleep study. We'll help you get there.
1. At your complimentary visit, we discuss your symptoms and history.
2. We refer you to a local pulmonologist or sleep specialist we trust.
3. They arrange a sleep study (often done at home) to diagnose and grade your sleep apnea.
4. If an oral appliance is appropriate, they send us a prescription, and you return to begin your scan.
We'll coordinate the referral and next steps for you.
Insurance and Reimbursement
How billing works:
We’re not credentialed with medical insurance plans, but that doesn’t mean your plan can’t help cover the cost.
We’re out-of-network:
New Providence Dentistry isn’t credentialed with medical insurance carriers, so we don’t bill them directly for oral appliance therapy.
You get a medical claim:
We provide a detailed medical claim form with the diagnosis and procedure codes, which you submit to your insurance yourself.
Possible reimbursement:
Many medical plans offer out-of-network benefits for sleep apnea treatment. Whether (and how much) is refunded depends entirely on your plan.
